I use quick oil studies to decide which images are worthy of ‘growing up’ to become larger works, and I explore color, design, and value in these pieces. Many of these are juicy gems in their own right, substantial enough to warrant mounting and framing.

This handsome bay was being shown in-hand for CCI inspection on the final morning of a three-day event, before the stadium jumping later. All the horses were groomed and polished, clean and fresh after the grueling cross-country phase the prior day.
