Just a quickie post. Out of the blue, I received an email from Lovetts Gallery in Tulsa, OK to be part of their 2010 “Masters of Influence” Invitational. The concept is that they (Lovetts) choose a Master (in 2010, it’s Frank Lloyd Wright) and the artists who are invited to the show create a piece that somehow incorporates that artist’s homage to the Master chosen, whether directly or indirectly.
The concept is wonderfully intriguing, and I wasted no time accepting, especially since I love FLW’s architecture, stained-glass windows, etc. Of course, now I’m hit with the stunning reality that I have to create something worthy of the invitation and FLW’s influence - not an entirely comfortable situation.
The 2009 MoI can be seen here.

Lately I’ve been receiving a direct email from Southwest Art about once a week, and it seems to be aimed mostly at artists (so somehow their profiling is working). Is anyone else getting these? some sound intriguing, like the “artist network online seminars” that are being presented.
The next one coming up (Tues 12/15) is titled “Art Critique 3: Improve your Work Through Expert Advice (Learning the Language of Art)” - and you can submit your work prior to the event for critique. One hour, $69.
I’d love to hear from anyone who attends any of these and would be happy to post your comments/experiences here.

Folks, I’m jurying an upcoming show for the Parklane Gallery, located near Seattle, Washington. It’s an exhibition aimed at animal artists:
Parklane Gallery in Kirkland, Washington, invites all animal-loving fine art artists to
participate in Parklane Gallery’s second annual juried show this
October. Gandhi said “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress
can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” In these tough
economic times animals are being abandoned in record numbers. It is a
privilege for both the artists and Parklane Gallery to take this
opportunity to exhibit animal themed fine art and also support a varied
list of local animal rescue organizations. The prospectus can be downloaded at http://www.parklanegallery.com/downloads/Prospectus-0910.pdf
Parklane Gallery is very fortunate to have the nationally recognized
artist Julie T. Chapman of Montana as our juror.
The important dates for this show are:
Entries Due Friday, 8/14/09
Acceptance Letters Mailed Friday, 9/4/09
Artwork Due at Parklane 9/29 - 10/1/09
Show Runs 10/6 - 10/31/09
Artist Reception Saturday, 10/10/09
Pick up Artwork 11/2 - 11/4/09
Artwork will be shipped Wed. 11/4/09
I’ve asked them to be sure that painting images are submitted without signatures so I can jury blind.

Every year my students inspire me, both directly and indirectly, to keep doing these workshops. So herewith:
WINTER 2009: Thursday, Feb 5 - Sunday Feb 8
SUMMER 2009: Thursday, June 25 - Sunday, June 28
Workshop fee is $1500; a nonrefundable $300 deposit is needed to hold your slot. You can call Triple D (406 . 755 . 9653) to use your credit card for deposit, or send a check to them or to me. As always, returning students receive a 10% discount.
As usual, we will start at the crack of dawn on the first day, Thursday, and continue to 2:30 - 3:00 PM on Sunday. Triple D will offer an extra day of photography, for a very reasonable fee, on the Monday following each workshop for those who want to shoot animals that weren’t part of the workhop. (Summer 2008 workshop folks: you’ll also have this option). We may also have the option of doing a horse shoot on one of the workshop days, depending on student interest.
You can see details on my website - what’s shown for 2008 will be substantially the same in 2009. A very few highlights of my winter 08 workshop are shown on my Workshops webpage just to make you salivate. Folks are already signing up for 2009, and my summer 08 workshop was full months in advance . . . so if you’re thinking about it, please let me know!
