Thanks for the news! Since the three big shows Michigan used to have (Lansing, Grand Rapids and Southfield) are long gone, I cannot get to any, and it is good news that there are still sales! Hang in there guys!!!

If all the naysayers would just keep still, people would move on. Just when we think we see light at the end of the tunnel, someone starts the fear and panic all over again! At a wildlife art show in March in Iowa, the previous year's sales were far surpassed. The show was moved from last year's in town location to the college campus expo center on the outskirts of town, the weather was absolutely beautiful, and yet people drove to the show and came indoors to buy art! I did 3 times better this year than last!

Susan - this is a great report and good stuff! THIS is what I want to see - artists encouraging other artists when the general media would have us rather hopeless otherwise.

I just spoke with an artist friend who does plein air paintings of the SF Bay Area, the Sierra Nevadas and other northern California scenes. Her sales are holding up fine so far, but she feels it could tank at any time. She is, however, very well-established and has a built in constituency of people who have been to, live in or love those places. I'm still working on finding out where my market is for the Mongolian subjects.

The daily painters group I'm a part of is selling pretty much everything we're listing on eBay. We've had to suck it up on prices, but we're shipping work all over the country and are getting repeat buyers. I'm hoping that we are laying the groundwork for sales of larger pieces down the road. In the meantime, a steady amount a month is good for morale.

I'm having a "Giant Small Works" sale at our local open studios event the first two weekends in June. I'll have between 4 and 5 dozen paintings. mostly 6x8 to 8x10, priced very reasonably since they are studies that didn't take a lot of time. I want to clean things out and get a little cash flow going. Plus, I like selling to my friends and neighbors, who can't afford my fancy-shmansy larger gallery paintings.
